Mark Tigwell

Mark Tigwell is Special Counsel and Head of Private Client ACT at Brightstone Legal, based in our Canberra office. He has practised as a Canberra lawyer for more than 40 years and has helped thousands of individuals, families and business owners with their legal matters. Mark joined Brightstone Legal following the merger with Bedfords Legal, bringing decades of local expertise and long-standing client relationships to the firm.

His practice covers business and commercial law, estate planning, deceased estate administration and private client advising. Mark is known for practical, no-nonsense advice focused on achieving the outcomes his clients want. He takes the time to understand each client’s needs and goals, and tailors his advice to suit and benefit them.

Mark still acts for his second ever client from 1984 and has become a trusted adviser and confidant to several generations of families and business owners across Australia and overseas. He has been recognised in The Best Lawyers in Australia™ every year since 2022, most recently in the 2027 edition across Commercial Law, Leasing Law, Real Property Law, Trusts and Estates, and Wealth Management / Succession Planning Practice. Mark believes good legal service does not end when a matter closes. He welcomes a call out of the blue from clients who just want to check something or ask a quick question, and these conversations form part of the holistic, continuing service he provides. Mark is also an active contributor to the legal profession in the ACT, having served for many years on the ACT Law Society Council and several of its key committees.
